Inside a Momversation Video Shoot
Vickie Howell blogs about her recent experience being a part of a Momversation shoot for an upcoming Ragu sponsored video series.
"I’ve been a part of a lot of TV and Web productions, requiring many different shooting methods. I have to say though, the video I worked on today for Momversation (sponsored by Ragu), is definitely a first for me. Momversation is known for videos containing real moms, having real conversations about topics relevant to us as women. For this video, the topic is: Dinnertime Dilemmas. From my home in Austin, I chatted with two women in California (Daphne Brogdon of Cool Mom & Kim Tracy Prince from House of Prince) via blue tooth while we all looked into cameras set-up in each of our respective kitchens."
Happy 2nd Birthday, Momversation!
On November 3, 2010, we celebrated Momversation's 2nd birthday as a leading online destination for women. Over the past two years, Momversation has connected with millions of women, echoing and responding to their thoughts through relatable, humorous, compelling, and sometimes outright shocking video conversations.
In the DECA offices, we celebrated this momentous occasion with a delicious Momversation themed cake. It was almost as sweet as this video we created that celebrates some of our favorite moments and topics with our talented and engaging panelists.
Momversation Teams Up with OpenSky for Shoppable Video Series
Just in time for Fall fashion, Momversation teamed up with OpenSky to introduce DECA TV's very first episode of our Shopping Video Series. To bring Momversation users exclusive discounts on things we think are great, panelist's Rebecca from Girl’s Gone Child, Giyen from Bacon Is My Enemy, and Mindy from The Mommy Blog each share their picks for their version of the ultimate fall luxury. In addition to their reviews and authentic endorsements, they’ve included exclusive discounts and links to buy directly from the Momversation website.
Watch the video and you’ll see a great mix of storytelling and the joy of discovering great products.
- Rebecca not only models her dragonfly necklace herself but also tells a quick story about the designer so we can understand that her recommendation has as much about eco-consciousness as it does about fashion.
- Giyen gives us a special insight when she points out that “luxury items should be things that you carry around every day.” What’s better for that than a canvas tote that’s both beautiful and practical?
- Mindy adds a little humor into her review while showing us different looks with her necklace selection. She also points out that 100% of the profits from the necklace go to helping women and families – one more reason to purchase it!
And of course each woman tells her story in her unique voice, helping us all make a personal connection to their recommendation. Check it out. After all, everyone deserves a little retail therapy!

Congrats to Daphne Brogdon named on Forbes.com Top 100 Websites for Women
No one can succeed on her own. Even the savviest women need help along the way. To that end, with the help of the ForbesWoman community, we’ve searched the Web for the most dynamic, inspiring and helpful websites for women. We’re delighted to present this list of ForbesWoman’s Top 100 Websites for Women.
To determine which sites and blogs made the cut we looked for compelling and decidedly female-oriented content, outstanding design, an active community and frequent updates. In short, sheer clickyness.
The Hollywood Reporter lists Michael Wayne in its Digital Power 50 for 2010!
Under CEO Michael Wayne’s direction, this premium-video provider has gotten in touch with its feminine side. That may come as a surprise, and not only because the conventional wisdom held that young males are easy pickings online. It’s also because the most recognizable faces on its programming slate may be dudes like Web-celeb dudes like Diggnation’s Alex Albrecht, who moonlights for DECA’s “Project Lore,” or the comedic duo behind YouTube-bred sensation “Smosh.”
But Wayne began steering the company toward female-friendly programming 18 months ago hot on the heels of DECA’s first breakout hit, “Momversation.” Now he’s lured over 25 branded entertainment deals to a slew of series targeting women covering parenting, food and there will be more launched later in 2010. ‘Momversation’ was a real paradigm shift for us,” said Wayne, a former Sony exec who launched DECA three years ago with venture-capital financing.“We had to capitalize on that hit.”
Wayne’s next strategic shift will be distributing its programming off its homegrown sites, including female-targeted portals, mobile and entirely offline product extensions. That’s a big change for Wayne, whose always flouted the hyperdistribution mode but the new plan nods to his TV roots at Sony. “We have a portfolio of O&O sites for women,” he said. “Now we’re going to expand into our affiliates network.”
